Can anyone recommend an experienced and meticulous C2 body and paint shop in eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire or Rhode Island? I'm ready to strip and paint the '64 coupe and it will definitely need some body work after stripping to correctly repair some butcher's earlier work. THANKS!

Re: NEW ENGLAND BODY SHOP FOR C2
Sir:
I has a lengthy hellacious experience with the Fitchburg business that has been recommended. In my 25 years of using the name Dr. Rebuild, never has anyone ever bounced more checks all the while my car was being "restored". Nobody had ever bounced 4 check or wrote them on closed accounts - PERIOD. Many have questioned my statements and therefore I backed them up with concrete facts, copies of bank statement and letters sent via registered mail - not some internet BS or rumor or innuendo. You can read about the 5 year ordeal I went throught with this fellow right on my web site.
Most sincerely
Geoffrey Coenen
I cannot recommend Ron's in Fitchburg

Fred, I also recommend Ron's in Fitchburg, MA. (978-345-6159) We have done 5 cars together and the 1st 4 have all been high scoring Duntov, Bloomington Gold cars. The 5th is presently being put together and will be shown starting next year. I haven't found another person any better to work with.- Top

Is This a Discussion Board or
a place to attack people.
Geoffrey,
Please use this board for its intended purpose and fight your battles in private. Ron is a well respected part of our hobby and deserves the same respect as everyone else who uses this board. Enough is Enough.- Top

This a Discussion Board and I answered the ?
Sir:
You have your opinion and I have my first hand experiences costing literally tens of thousands of dollars to guide me. I have an opinion based upon first hand knowledge, not some hearsay, not rumor or innuendo in this chat room or any other.
Thanks for the encouragement. I need to add more jpegs that more clearly illustrate these shenanigan. I even think I will enter this 1967 in a New England NCRS event just to get the results quantified by the esteemed judges themselves. Who could be a better judge?
Most Sincerely,
Geoffrey Coenen
PS If you make up stories, or falsify information it can be costly. Rest assured, I will not risk even a peso.- Top

Re: NEW ENGLAND BODY SHOP FOR C2
I am so new around here I imagine I should not even dare post. But I too would like to know of a good resource in the CT-MA-RI area for work on my C2, so I looked at this thread. I saw one poster respond with a recommendation for Shop X, and that is his right, it is an offer of information based upon his experience, I hope, and that is just the sort of information that I want shared. A second poster also had an experince with the recommended shop, so happens a negative one, and he shared it, even documented it to dispell any claim that it was mere speculation, and concluded that he would not be able to recommend Shop X.
Then, well then things went in a southerly direction.
But as a person looking to collect advice with regard to a vendor or service-provider, I appreciate hearing both good and bad experiences myself, I truly hope the intent here is not to censor negative experiences; I would be royally pissed if I were to use Shop X, had a bad experience myself and then came to learn that this is a "only post positive experiences" forum and cantankerous member x had been admonished not to post up HIS experince with shop X because it was unpleasant. To be honest, if the truth is that 20 members have had excellent experience with Shop X and post up positive, one member had a bad experience and posts that too, we are adult enough here to "tally" these 20 yeah votes and 1 nay vote and reach our own conclusion. And this ain't "secret" ballots, so we can even attach weight to the "votes" of those we have respect for. But I cannot make an INFORMED descision if the data is screened first.
Now then, please don't hurt me, remember I love corvettes, you love corvettes . . .65 MM Convertible, L76 (365 hp)- Top

The Bad Is AT LEAST As Important As The Good.
Jack, you said what I wanted to say, but you said it much more eloquently than I could have.
Geoffrey's experience is in a slightly different context (supplier to shop owner), but even this experience could indicate the shop owner's ability to manage his business well, his character, his business integrity, etc. I would want to hear Geoffrey's opinion, and then I would give the shop owner the chance to respond to the allegations. There are generally two sides to every story. Based on credibility of the two sides, I would make my own decision...and hold only myself accountable.- Top

Re: NEW ENGLAND BODY SHOP FOR C2
Jack/Chuck,
I can't agree with you more. We are all in need of constructive feedback from everyone to guide us through the maze of vendors that exist. I personally solicit this feedback all the time. My problem is a personal attack on an individual in public forum and I believe that is out of line. Its as simple as that. In any hobby there are bound to be problems that arise and occassionally one that cannot be resolved. That does not mean either individual is a bad person or has a bad business. If I were the person being challenged I would not enter into a public debate on an any issue let alone one that is many years old. That is a "no win" situation.
In this case I have first hand knowledge of this Restoration shops work as do many others. Others are unwilling to post that for obvious reasons. I've said my piece and that is the end as far as I'm concerned. Sorry if I have offended anyone.- Top

Re: NEW ENGLAND BODY SHOP FOR C2
Dave, you certainly didn't offend me. I always find your experience and opinion valuable.
That's what we're talking about...everyone being able to offer their experience without ANYONE being offended or intimidated. (Hopefully, the poster isn't biased by other factors, like being the subject's brother-in-law, or in the other direction, possibly his/her "ex". )
Each of us can only offer our personal experience. If your experience wasn't the same as mine, what else can be said...we had different experiences. I learned awhile back that each poster has a vote, and there is no point arguing about our positions...Sorting it out is left to the inquirer.- Top

Re: NEW ENGLAND BODY SHOP FOR C2
Jack,
I have been doing business with Ron's Auto Restoration since 1998 and have had nothing but positive experience. Ron has done two frame-off restorations for me over these years. The first was a 1962 that went all the way through Dontov, and was Chip's Choice at the Corvettes @ Carlisle in 2001. Ron has recently completed a frame-off restoration on my 1958, which scored 99.2% in its first show at the Florida Regional. I find the shop to be honest, dependable and the quality of work is outstanding.
