Hello,I would like to paint my hardtop. It's real expensive to have someone with a booth paint the car,and I can't afford to have it done.So I thought I would try it, starting with the hardtop. I know to strip all the old paint off with fiberglass freindly stripper.Do I have to put a gel coat on after I strip it? Do I have to sand the top after stripping? I want to paint the top,and see how it comes out before, I think about doing the whole car. The color will be White. What prep work, primer and paint should i use to do a quality job? I don't have a paint booth and, would likly paint it like laquer,in my driveway, wet sand it and then buff it .But I don't want to use laquer because I want the paint to hold up,longer. However I would like to make it look as much as show quality as possible. Is there a paint to use this way? Or, Am I asking for too much? Thank you.

Re: 61 HARDTOP prep&paint
You should not have to gelcoat, just good primer. Buy compatible primer, sealer, paint. Lacquer would be best if you plan to paint outside. It dries faster so you get less trash. Buy you a paint book and study it. I think it will answer most of your questions.- Top
