clean air tube and choke tube

Any tricks to installing the clean air tube and choke tube into the exhaust manifold ('64 327/300 engine) or is it a simple press fit?

Simple press fit.... The trick is getting the old, internal tube, out of the mani since it slides into a step-bore hole in the casting and they're typically held in place due to metal migration between the tube and mani over the years of heat/cold cycles....

Luckily, the manifold is a nearly new paragon replacement so that is one worry I don't have (maybe the only one . . .)

        Mark,
Just performed this installation on a '65 manifold a month or so ago.

Contrary to Jack's comment that the manifold is stepped; it is not what I found when I did mine. If you measure the new internal pipe, you will find that one end is a few thousandths of an inch smaller than the other. The smaller end is the bottom end and it will slide through the hole in the top of the manifold.

It will drop in and stop when the upper expanded portion comes to rest against the edge of the upper hole in the manifold. At this point, you carefully drive the internal pipe into the manifold. There is a slight interference fit between the upper bell of the tube and the hole in the manifold. The hole at the bottom of the manifold is a clearance fit for the bottom of the tube.

I used a broken drill bit that fit well into the expanded portion of the internal tube as a driver.

You're lucky that you did not have to remove a broken tube. It's a bad one!

        Good luck,
        Gene
