    C3 fiber optic question?

    on one of the tail lights the fiber optic has melted off. is there a way to "trim" the end and put it back on to the connector? any tricks??

    If you are talking about the fiber cable, yes you can trim the end and reattach. Take a single edge razor blade and trim the end square (90 deg). Purchase a fiber cable seal (I believe that the good Doc Rebuild and several other vendors stock this item). Not as hard as you think, just cut straight.

    Also if you have a dim lighting indicator, it is usuallly a dirty optic cable end. You can clean these up with rubbing alcohol and a que tip. Just wash the end of the cable off with the Que Tip saturated with alcohol.

      Dick,

      Dick W is right on on the connection having to be cut squarely. I used a piece of rubber tubing that is used for model plane fuel line for the connnector. I picked it up in a hobby store. Just push the ends of the fiber optic that are cut at 90 degrees into the tubing. Just be aware that there may be some degredation in the light output, but this is easier than replacing the entire wiring harness.
