    62 starter/solenoid finish

Per the JGM the entire starter is semi-flat black.

What finish should the metal can be on the solenoid? JGM only says "correct configuration".

Thanks, Chris (Engine compartment is ready and waiting for the engine!!)

    Re: 62 starter/solenoid finish

Some solenoids were painted black over the case's plated surface and others were left unpainted. I'm not sure there's a correct rhyme/reason as to why some were painted and others not painted. It's quite possible the practice varied with specific production time frame.

The same goes for solenoids being date coded. I've seen some that were and many others that weren't.

About all I can tell you about 'correct' configuration is, in that time frame the solenoid ought to have a black Bakelite rear cover with the Delco Remy script emboss. Others may have more info to give you from their specific knowledge of '62 starter assy's.
