C2 Rear Suspension/Driveline Paint?

67 coupe - when I bought it years ago, after 20+ years on the Houston streets, it looked like none of the rear seuspension or frame was painted - it still had the paint marks on the driveshaft and diff yoke. I know the frame was painted, but - what is the proper color for the rear suspension and driveshaft? I have seen some black, some painted with cast iron-colored paint. Noland Adams' book shows some early C2 on the assembly line - rear suspension looks black. What to do?

I have a 65, the judging manual says everything but the spring and shocks are natural. I cleaned mine with a wire wheel, and because the car is driven not judged, I coated everything with several coats of Krylon matte clear finish. It's only been six months but it is looking good!! Just one man's opinion.
