Having difficulties getting the convertible top on my '60 stowed sufficiently to not have stress on the deck lid. Have been back twice to a reputable top man who can't figure it out. With the top up the deck lid fits fine. Once down however there is a lot of stress on the deck lid. (It cracked on the inside by the driver side hinge already. I've got it shimmed way up so there's not as much stress, but then there is at least a 3/4" gap. Anybody have any ideas? Could the frame be wrong?

Re: C1 top adjustment/deck lid fit
The inner brackets on your top frame are out of adjustment. These can be a real pain to adjust. If I remember correctly, lowering the bracket will straighten the horizontal portion of the frame better, but can also prevent the top from folding properly. Raising it allows the top to fold completely, but if you go too far the two pieces of the horizontal frame over the window won't extend properly leaving the frame rails in a shallow "V". Good luck.- Top

Re: C1 top adjustment/deck lid fit
Think of how you pack the soft top material as you lower the top assy. Try changing your arrangement so that less material is packed between the frame assy. Try to re-position the header around as you close the lid. As a last thing you could use a belt strap to compress the frame assy to close tighter (like all 53 to 55 Corvettes do) to aid compressing the frame assy so that their lid will close nice. I believe the repro soft top PADS that are made are stuffed to much ( thick) causing your problem. I have yet to ever see a repro top frame or material made originally like an original was.
This is only my 2cents. or 3- Top

As Roy said, rearrange the top material. GENTLY pull the top and pad material away from the frame and from going in between the bows as the top is folding into position. Be CAREFUL NOT to pull the pads loose from the bows or tear the top channels loose from frame work or stitching. Doing this can possibly give you the clearence you need to close the deck lid. When the top frame in down you can fold the corners up or down so the material is not rubbing on the deck hindge or getting pinched as the deck is being closed. Its a pain to do by your self but it can be done. A helper is always that extra set of hands you need. Good Luck. Mike D#1787- Top

Re: C1 top adjustment/deck lid fit
I appreciate the words. I have tried to make sure that there is no material between the bows. The real problem seems to be the header bow and or the material that makes the square corner. I try to get that material into the small depression on the underside of the deck lid but it doesn't seem to be enough to take the pressure off. VERY FRUSTRATING!- Top
