C2 - 1967 Door Panel Trim Coming Loose

The trim strip along my arm rest is coming loose. I put it back and everytime the door closes this trim piece comes loose again. Is there any way to get those prongs to reseat themselves? Should I try to glue this metal trim strip to the door panel, or what? Is it possible to drill small holes in those little prongs and run wire to the backside of the door panel?

Thanks for your help. These are the original door panels to the car and I do not wish to exchange for reproduction at this time.

    Jim,

--------If you are trying to get the strip to stay without taking the door-panel off the car I dont think you will be successful. Take it off and you can bend the prongs in such a way that the strip will stay put. If some of the prongs are missing it is possible to drill a small hole on the end of a prong and pull it down one way or another. Whatever you do, dont glue it! do it right...................Bill S

as bill related, remove the panel and don't try weatherstrip adhesive . bend the tang in the opposite direction snf put s curl on the pointed end then take a 6 or 8 inch piece of fine wire, wrap that arond the curled end of the tab, pull the trim into position, then staple the fine wire to the cardboard. if you weren't so scotchish, al knock could supply repos. regards, mike

Thanks for your ideas. I guess I better keep my glue heat gun in the closet. One of my panels has a "SORRY" written in grease pencil on it, then an arrow drawn almost to the lower edge of the panel where the vinyl overlaps; the manufacturer cut the overlapping material very close to the edge. Both of my door panels are "ink stamped" with dates preceeding the assembly date of the car. When are we going to start judging these dates?

        Thanks again.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. But I do hope your last sentence was with "tongue in cheek"?

Just passing on what I observed on these "unmolested" 37 year old panels.

              Hi Jim,
If the metal tangs are broken off like mine were , try taking a copper strap used to secure your typical plumbing line cut in 1/8inch strips then using a heavy duty soldering iron solder the new copper strip to the remaining tang on you trim strip. You can then reinstall the trim and the new copper extension will easily bend over to retain the trim.

              Regards
