    66 VETTE HUBCAP SPINNER???

I have what appears to be a NOS set of 66 hubcaps. They do not have a spinner, instead a round cap GM #3964515 with the words "general detroit" real small under the number. Anyone know what I have, I am not sure? It looks like I could remove the cap and put on a spinner and it would be a 66 NOS cap?

    Bill-----

What you have is a set of 1966 SERVICE replacement wheel covers manufactured after 1969. The original 1966 wheel covers were modified for SERVICE after about that time and the "spinner" was eliminated to comply with "federal motor vehicle safety standards". These wheel cover assemblies were GM #3964518 (the ornament is 3964515). The original 1966 wheel cover ASSEMBLY was GM #3888813 and the spinner ornament was GM #3876544.

Thanks Joe, if I put the correct(Repo) spinner on will the cap pass ncrs judging or should I look for original caps?

        Bill-----

That I can't tell you. However, I expect that the wheel cover section of these units was manufactured with the original tooling, so I would expect that part to be correct or mostly correct. Combining that with spinners that are exactly as-original, I would expect them to "pass judging".

            Bill,

They will never pass judging! Send them to me and I'll pay you $100.00. Isn't that what this board is for--shafting fellow NCRS members?

Joking of course-They will be wonderful for judging with a good repo spinner and correct emblem. Correct emblems can be purchased from Trim Parts or your favorite vendor.

            Regards,

            JR

                Bill,

--------Do your caps have the spacer? No one seems to have addressed that part of the equation here. In case you wernt aware there is a diecast, chromed spacer inbetween the cap and the spinner. Since I have never needed a set of spinners or caps I dont know off hand weather the spacers are reproduced or not. Hope this helps.............Bill S

Thanks Bill, Yes I do have a spacer, between the round small cap and the hubcap. Do you think I would pass ncrs judging, other than the repo spinner?

--------Anybody else would be better qualified to answer a judging question than me. I find myself very uninterested in the judging experience..........Bill S
