Visited my local radiator shop today (they fixed a crack in my lower hose connection last month). I asked how to clean out the minor sludge I saw inside while they had it apart. The owner said that the manufacturers of large radiators used on trucks and busses recommend dish washer detergent. He recommended about 2" of granular "Cascade" measured in a coffee mug desolved in a gallon of water. Pour into the radiator and top off hte radiator with water. Run the car for a couple weeks, repeat the process as much as necessary then thoroughly rinse. Has anyone ever heard of this? Will it work or is it a myth? TIA John.

Re: radiator flush
I'd be a little skittish about this - most radiators are brass, but those I've found in Corvettes are aluminum. I use CASCADE in my dishwasher at home, and I would not want it to do to my radiator what it does when it gets onto an aluminum pot in the dishwasher! Instant corrosion - and it is deep into the aluminum.- Top
