    C3 Radio (68)

I have an opportunity to purchase an original radio for my 68 corvette. The seller has provided the model number (7302721) and serial number (21fmq-0838), but I want to make sure it is the correct one for my year and if possible matches my production date. I have ordered the Pocket Spec Guide, however I don't believe it will arrive prior to someone else purchasing it. Can someone assist me in identifying if this radio is correct for my car? Per my original window sticker, which list both the 2U69AC AM/FM Radio and 2U79AB AM/FM Stereo Radio. The original purchase order states the purchase of an AM/FM Stereo. Also, my car production date is in Apr 1968 and was a California delivery. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

GM #7302721 is U-69 radio originally used for 1968 through 1971 Corvettes. This is a monaural radio. From the sounds of it, your car was originally equipped with the U-79 stereo radio. For your application, that radio will have GM part number 7303211 on it.

The way option U79 (AM/FM/Stereo) reads in the AIM, it only calls out those items above/beyond the basic radio that are required for the Stereo feature. Things like the ignition shielding, the radio antenna, Etc. are part of U69 (basic AM/FM radio), so that's probably why your build sheet reads as it does--the stereo feature built upon the base radio option.

When looking for this radio remember there are TWO pieces to find: (1) the basic radio chassis, and (2) the FM stereo adaptor. Without BOTH pieces and their cable interconnect, you only have HALF of the radio!

The part numbers you want are 7303201, 1968 Stereo Adaptor, and 7303211, AM/FM/Stereo Radio Chassis. Too frequently we see folks selling the center console radio chassis only thinking they have the entire radio for sale.... The adaptor cable connects to the main chasis and that's the box that does RH/LH channel separation (the guts of stereo signal processing).

I have a complete original stereo radio for a 68. One speaker wire originates from the back of the radio and the other speaker wire comes from the multiplexer. The external amp attaches to the bottom of the multiplexer. Just how I found it. Terry

the stereo radio is actually 3 pieces. the radio, the multiplex, and the power transistors on a heat sink.
