    C2 steel wheels

I'm looking for a set of steel wheels for my 66. I have the original KH date coded steel wheels that have bias ply tires mounted for judging but would like a set to mount radial tires for driving. Hard to find another set of KH 65-66 wheels at a decent price and would settle for reproduction wheels. I recall seeing 15X6 repro wheels advertised somewhere but now can't find. Original KH wheels are 15X51/2.

    Dave,

I believe GM's '8080 wheels will work for you, they are 15x51/2 and were still available about two years ago from GM (a buddy of mine bought five). I would need to look through my files to get you the complete part number, but I'm sure someone else on the board will chime in.

For those who what a set of "driving wheels and tires" for C2s I recommend a repro '67 Rally - 15x6, 0.060" offset.

I believe these are available from the normal Corvette part sources, and a 215/70R-15, which has the same revs per mile as the OE 7.75-15 is the best tire size. Your OE wheelcovers should fit, too.

I recently bought a 15x6 repro for my spare from Corvette Central. I think it was about $90.00. If you are looking for a set look on e-bay first. There have been several sets of rims for sale there recently, some original and some repros. Seemed like they were going pretty cheap but I did not follow the bidding until the end. Good Luck......P.J.

Watch out for the eBay "replacements"

There's an eBay seller (his moniker is "vettewheeelman") who's been selling 15 x 6" steel rims [sets of 4] every few weeks. These are the type that you can pick up in the scrap yards for $5-10 each [ie. RF, FL and other 15" dia. codes, used on some GM passenger cars at least to the mid-70's].

He's (now) up-front about them being replacement and not the original 5.5" wide, and he (now) mentions the dog-dish nubs. Thing is, he's getting $200-400 for these rims, depending on the gullibility of the bidder (check the link). His market seems to operate on reverse supply-and-demand -- he's getting more $$ for these sets now than he did when he started.

A STEAL on steel wheels ???

Re: Watch out for the eBay "replacements"

Thanks everyone -- Why couldn't I go out and search the junk yards for my own set? I could sand blast and paint myself like I did my original KH wheels. Could someone (maybe Joe Lucia) tell me what passenger car/ truck were interchangeable with the 65-66 Corvette wheels but in a 6in. size?

                Dave,

I am aware of the fact that GM has discontinued these wheels. However, if the counterman is willing to search for the part number, some may be still available. It has happened to me on more than one occasion. Just gotta keep digging!

I don't know about Joe, but the '72 Hollanders lists Chevy 15X6 used on Chevy Pass car '67 and '70, 68-69 Camaro without rally wheels.

                      Clup,

Thanks -- Is the bolt pattern the same as a 66 corvette? Will the 66 hubcaps fit on thses wheels?

                      See you at Carlisle
