C2; 67 Exterior Mirror, flapping in wind

Is there some way to tighten up the pivot on an exterior mirror to keep it from flapping in the wind. I have tried threadlock to epoxy, everything seems to wear off and the mirror won't stay adjusted. It's original and I hate to replace it with a repro.

Replacement is the BW to go because all internal wear items are fresh/new. But, some have reported sucess with repairing their original mirrors and there's a current thread on this.

I basically says to remove the mirror and soak it in lacquer thinner to dissolve the RTV that holds the back of the glass to its internal head mounting pads and remove the glass. Expect the 'soak' to take a day or more.

Now, with the glass out, you'll see the swivel ball and a flat plate that serves to press against the ball and provide tension. The plate mounts to the inner mirror head by rivets and this is generally what's loosened up....

      Jerry,

This is not an unusual problem. You've already tried the quick fixes so now its time to get serious. You need to remove the glass mirror and then you can tighten the joint. I've never done this but from other posts on this matter you remove the mirror from the car and soak it in lacquer thinner until the mirror glass releases from the mirror frame. After adjusting the joint you can attach the mirror glass with silicone as I recall. Maybe someone else will respond with more detail.
