    C3 Electrical Questions 1980

I would appreciate assistance with two issues:

    1. I am replacing the windshield wiper/washer control module as it has
failed. Is there a repair facility I can send the original to for repair?
How about a source of supply for a schematic diagram of the module itself?

    2. I read a shop manual and there are many references to circuit numbers,
i.e. 94, 102, etc., where does one go to determine what the numbers
represent? The manual doesn't seem to want to list the code numbers and
the local library doesn't have technical references that do either.
Bottom line question is: What is the best electrical circuit listing or
schematic explanation for my car? Is there a C3 Corvette electrical circuit
    theory book on the market?

    Thank you.

    These are tough questions.

First, I certainly hope that there is a repair source out there for the controller modules. The 80-82 module, GM #14016250, is discontinued and I don't know of a source for them. However, I would try contacting United Radio in Syracuse, NY (www.unitedradio.com) or BBB Automotive (www.a-1injectors.com). United Radio is a full-service Delco repair facility and, hopefully, they'll be able to service the module. I don't know of a source for a schematic on this module if it's not in the GM Service Manual. This is unlikely since GM only serviced this piece as a unit.

Second, I don't know of a source for the electrical information you require beyond the factory service manual and the AIM. You might peruse the NCRS bookstore, though.

Joe's suggestion on finding an AC-Delco/United-Delco shop for the repair (or substitution) of you wiper module is an excellent one. We have an age-old United Delco dealer here in Denver who does speedo and radio repair and, if memory serves, he also works on interval wiper boards through discrete repair or re-flow through AC-Delco.

On electrical schematics, I haven't seen what you're looking at, but the practice of numbering discrete branch circuits came along as a byproduct of the CAD system used by designers in the mid-70's. I don't think there's intelligence behind the numbering other than the fact a given number identifies a particular branch/node making it easy to follow as it wends its way here/there across the entire circuit.

If what you have is a wiring diagram (just what wires interconnect what physical building blocks) vs. a schematic diagram (the wiring interconnect + what happens within each functional terminating point), then you need to acquire a copy of ST359-80.

The ST359 documentation series started in the mid-70's and consists of a booklet with C-sized fold out drawings covering ALL Chevy passenger cars for a given year. The dash number indicates the specific model year.

I know there's an ST359-80 because I picked one up at a swap meet (NOT for sale or lending). You can check with the various automotive publication houses (e.g. Helm, Inc. of Detroit, MI) who routinely re-publish and distribute, under license, most all of the various auto mfgr's original documentation items. Just do a Google search for Helm and call them to see if they can still supply you a copy of ST359-80. Then, you'll have full schematic diagram source references for your car.

Check out this website. The info is for a 79, but perhaps it is close enough.

Yes, that's EXCELLENT information. For info, though, the 78-79 and 80-82 contol modules are different. Just how they are different, I don't know. However, I expect that the differences are minor. It's something that someone trying to service one of these should know, though, lest they find a difference that they can't figure out.

            Gentlemen,

Thank you for the information. I will follow up and
contact the radio repair folks and Helm for the ST359-80
diagrams. The web site with the 79 tuned port is very
informative, will add it to my list of favorites for the
            future.

            Thanks again all,
