Live in Detroit and spent 1 year driving to Toronto every week. Never asked for license, birth certificate or passport.

Did take the kids once with the wife and forgot kids birth certificates but they just asked the 3 and 5 year olds some questions and waved us thru.

Since I joined NCRS in 1978, I have crossed the border over 100 times. On September 19, 2001 just after 9/11. The US and Cnadian border guards were more interested in looking at my Corvette and telling me stories of their cars than anything else. Read the advisory on the web site and have a great time in Canada EH! With the recent news of Coors and Molsons merging I guess we might have to drink "Molson American"

Biggest hassle I've ever had in coming BACK to Canada from the US occurred when we had our (two) dogs with us. Canada Customs/Immigration insists that you have proof of rabies vaccination. Not likely to be an issue for most going to the convention, unless your hair's a little shaggy and you pant a lot at the border...

Just to reinforce some of the previous comments. The passage through Customs and Immigration does not follow a distinct pattern. My last trip through in the 1956 resulted in a pull over and payment of $1.20 to Uncle Sam for 24 aluminum containers of malt beverage that I had declared. In the lane next to me Phil Roberts had a liter of Canadian Distilled spirits in his C-5 also declared and he was whisked through. The same pattern can be expected regarding identification papers.

I've gone back and forth across the border couple of times in the planning of the convention. Each time I had a certified copy of my birth certificate, as suggested (I don't have a passport). I have never been asked for it, even when I was accompanied by another US citizen with a passport. All they aver wanted to see was my driver's license, and my assurance I had no firearms.
We will see if it is different with the Corvette on Saturday.
Speaking of passports, remember to stow the radar detector out of sight.

Of course 9/11 was the big trigger point but in the past couple of years the Canadian government has come under harsh criticism by the Bush administration for have very loose border policies. They tightened for a while then loosened. I would not expect anyone to have major problems crossing.
