Re: C2 (1967) AC RH RADIO SIDE COVER

I agree with Mike. But I have seen, on more than one occasion, 67 AC cars with the regular panel and a hole covered with a plastic plug. The plug was slightly larger than 1/2" and I believe the hole was 1/2" or 7/16". Not sure on the hole diameter, but the plastic plug had a flat surface with a texture not unlike the surrounding panel. Sort of like a "finishing plug. Looked like it was there from day one to me. I've seen it on at least one "barn find" car, and a couple of others. The holes were in the same place on the panel.

Can anyone shed any light on what this hole was used for? And why would it get plugged? Some sort of radio adjustment?

Re: C2 (1967) AC RH RADIO SIDE COVER

        Hi Jim:

My 1967 A/C convertible, number 15586, has the a RH radio panel with no indentation for the vent pull. In other words, it does not look like the panel on page 406 of the Noland Adams book.

I have been told that my panel is "incorrect" and will result in a points deduction during flight judging. I can't really comment on the originality of my particular panel, since I am not the original owner of the car. However, I am interested to see so many other owners of 1967 AC cars report having no vent pull indentation.

Surely the NCRS judging standards must have sorted this out by now. I note that in the judging manual, Section 5 of the Interior section says "On air conditioned cars, the right side trim panel does not have a fresh air pull," and Section 8 says only "If the car is equipped with air conditioning, the passenger side fresh air pull is deleted."

Can someone clarify how this item is judged?

I have two 67 AC cars 13XXX and 16XXX serial number range. Both are completely original and neither have the provisions.

Joe, In the judging process there are 5 elements of originality considered and another separate evaluation for condition.

3 points for originality and 3 points for condition, according to judging sheets dated 2000 from one of my cars. No deduct for my original flat panel, by the way in either Bowtie or Flight (5 times) judging

There may be judges that want to see the indented and undrilled panel (I am not one of them, and this thread reinforces my observation that it is NTP)

None the less, considering the point value of 1/5 of originality, the other 4/5 if no other deviation (like missing/incorrect screws or deviations seen on repro panels) noted, it should be miniscule.

Condition is another matter. Many original panels are damaged.

My thinking is the indention issue, if a judge believes it, could only be a 1/5th of 3 point deduct, if no other originality issues are observed.

A little sarcasm: Maybe one will show up on ebay soon?
