Tower Clamps - Need Help!

I have been having a problem with the wittek tower clamp at the water neck end of my upper radiator hose. It doesn't hold. It keeps leaking. Presently I have a screw clamp and tower clamp in place to stop the leaking. Any suggestions on how to get the tower clamp to work properly?

Ralph,

Yes, Don't tighten too much and silicone the inside. Wait until the next day to fill the radiator and it will work for 30 or 40 years.

If you mean to put the silicone on the inside of the clamp, the surface which touches the radiator hose, that is what I did. I even rotated the clamp a bit prior to tighting in an attempt to make sure it was clamping uniformally all away around the hose. I even checked the water neck for roundness. Should I try permatex or the like?

Ralph,

Put the silicone sealant on the inside of the hose where it comes in contact with the neck and tighten the Tower Clamp. Make sure the hose and neck are dry and clean. That way it will seal without too much pressure and seal perfectly. Wait until the next day and fill her up.

I didn't realize you were suggesting using silicone SEALANT. I was using silcone lubricant under the clamp. Duh! If I use the sealant will I have problems removing the clamp at a later date?

Ralph - the sealant is on the ID of the hose, to seal the hose to housing with minimal pressure. You can always cut off the hose and peel the sealant. The tower clamp won't have any sealant at all.....Craig

I think I remember guys in the past suggesting that you put a standard clamp on to secure the hose to the neck properly and without leaking. Then add the tower clamp, placing it in the same spot formerly occupied by the other clamp.
