mid year or later shifter?

I am trying to identify a shifter being sold on e-bay. The pictures are not clear enough for me to see the portion between the T handle and the ball.The seller says it may be NOS and the part # on the box is GM 1#3960609. The shaft length is 7 3/4" from the weld.See for yourself the Item # on e-bay is 559523478. I have a later shifter (68 to ???) in my 66 now and would like to bid on this one if it is correct for my car. Any help on this would be as always greatly appreciated. I have had some discussion with the sellers but they can't seem to answer my questions to my satisfaction

It's not correct for a mid year. The GM #3960609 shifter is a 68-76 part.

Thanks Joe. Did you look at the pictures on e-bay? The shifter may not have come from that box????? In the photo the top of the shifter looks correct for 66 or does it? I know the ball is wrong. sometimes you can't always believe what you are looking at, especially when you need it to be the 66 part.

Yes, I have been following that item. It's a little hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like a 68-76 to me. The main difference between the 68-76 and the 64-67 is the length and configuration of the shifter lever.

Another key point: later SERVICE examples of the 68-76 shifter were supplied with a black plastic shifter ball with metal thread insert. I think that it's more than a little co-incidence that this shifter is apparently also so-equipped.
