56 REAR AXLES LEAKING

Working on a friends 56, can't get the passenger side rear axle to quit leaking fluid out. Bubba has done some damage to the housing where the bearing slides in, anybody ever used any sealer with good results? Can the bearing be pressed on the axle too far thus not allowing the bearing to seal against the housing? It is not leaking out of middle of retainer, but out the hole in the backing plate, gets all over the tire and rim. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure that the leak is between the bearing and the housing and not at the bearing seal? It is way more likely that the bearing seal is leaking than the O-rings. The bearing can not be pressed on too far as it stops at a shoulder. Either leak will route the lube out the weep hole youare talking about. The bearing retainer is designed to route the leak out the back to avoid the brake shoes getting lube on them.
