    66 327 Clutch Linkage problems

I have received all of my replacement parts from LIC to replace the worn out parts on my clutch linkage all the way to the clutch fork. My question is: How do I get the clutch pedal out? Please tell me there is an easy way. I took the retainer clip off and started to remove bushings & clutch pedal and found that there is not enough room to slide it out. Is there any tricks or am I going to have to remove a few more items? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Rich.

Re: 66 327 Clutch Linkage problems

I removed my clutch pedal a few years ago and I had to remove the entire assembly that supports both the brake and clutch pedals. The front of the assembly supports the master cylinder through the firewall so that will have to be unbolted. I believe that the clutch pedal shaft runs through the brake pedal so removing the assembly will remove both pedals. If you have the LIC catalog, section 28 (which has all the clutch parts) shows this support assembly and how all the pieces interlock with each other. It looked pretty complicated when I began to undo everything but it's actually quite simple. You can remove the entire assembly and rebuild it while it's out and use the catalog as a reference guide, and then re-install it as one unit. It's really a snap. Good luck.

Thanks Joe...I figured I was going to have to remove the entire assembly. Is there any problems with removing the Brake Master cylinder? Can I just move it out far enough to slide bracket out and hopefully save the gasket? Also aren't there some steering linkage braces that need to come out? Thanks again..Rich

The brake master cylinder will simply unbolt and pull forward. Just don't undo any of the brake line fittings. It will unbolt from the firewall and "hang" without any problem. You might want to have another gasket on hand just in case half of it stickes to the master cylinder and half of it sticks to the firewall and it tears when you separate the two. If you are very careful you might be able to pull the two apart SLOWLY and save the gasket-but I would have a spare just in case. As fas as the steering goes, I think I had the steering column out at the time but I don't think that it is a necessity to have it out. I've taken that column out so many times to detail and replace bearings on it that it's a simple 15 minute job so I figured I would just yank it out and give myself some more room to work. I honestly don't remember if it HAS to come out or not. There might be some of the steering support brackets that will have to be unbolted from the entire assembly to be removed but I think it might be only 2 or 3. Either way they are very easy to remove and you will have no problem figuring out how to get them out and re-install them.
