    69 BB FAN SHROUD EXTENSION?

My Sept. of 1969 427 L68 4-speed w/AC seems to not have and maybe never had the extension on the fan shroud. Any views on how this should be would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You'll find reproductions of the lower extention in various catalogs (e.g. Corvette Central). Most of our cars 'lost' the lower extention to the shroud the first time someone tried to pull the radiator and discovered it wouldn't come out by simply removing the lower extention and trying to lift the rad up and out of the core support. After that, the part was generally discarded as 'superflous'....

I can tell you from experience, the repro extention is probably NOT going to fit on a factory original rad shroud without a little 'coaxing' and material shaving. It might well fit on the companion reproduction fan shroud, but I've not tested that. Bottom line, you CAN get there, but be prepared for some sweat and under your breath cursing when you pay the $$$ for the part, lay it in and see how the attaching screw holes align with the main shroud!

While the GM service replacements were still available, I found out , that in fact, they did not fit either. Apparently somewhere along the line the dimensions got off, and probably the reproductions were made off the incorrect GM pieces.
