    Shifter/Transmission Help!

I just completed drop on my 1961 after a complete restoration. The shifter rubbed on the tunnel (3rd & 4th gear) prior to restoration and I thought it was a worn transmission mount. The car now has a new transmission mount and it still is very tight on the right side of the tunnel. The body had never been off the frame prior to this restoration.

    Thanks for any help!

    Ray,

I think you need to provide us with some more information. It is pretty hard to diagnose your problem with what you have said. Is it the stock engine & transmission? Corvette or aftermarket shifter? What is rubbing, is it the shift lever or the rods below? Give us some more info and we will try to help.

        Re: Shifter/Transmission Help!

George, The car is a 1961, 270 HP with the original engine and transmission. The previous owner had installed an iron case T-10 1960 transmission in the car over thirty years ago because of a howling in the rear of the main case. The shifter is stock and original. The shifter rubs on the fiberglass tunnel when in third and forth gear and you can see small crescent shape divots in the tunnel where this has been happening for years. I attributed the problem to a worn transmission mount, but after installing a new mount and the original rebuilt 1961 aluminum T-10 transmission (previous owner still had the original T-10 after 35 years) the shifter is in the same position.

        Thanks for the response!

            Ray,
I am not sure about the 61, but if I remember right my 59 had a removable tunnel. Is it possible that the tunnel is off centered a little bit causing your clearance problem?

                    Ray,

Sorry I couldn't open your photo at first, now I see the detail. I still don't know if tyhe tunnel was originally removable, and yours has been glssed in. Is the driveline is vibration free, indicating that everything underneath is straight?
