    Re: C-3 1971 Suspension

The only hard parts I would use for things such as ball joints, tie rod ends and idler arm are Moog pieces. I was told even the Federal Mogul idler arms are a cheapie (bushing?) version. I did my '68 a few years ago and I believe I was able to select Moog heavy duty pieces for the ball joints and idler arm.

What bushings are preferred rubber or polyurethane? Spring: 7 leaf steel or epoxy-fiberglass? Sources preferred: Bairs, Van Steel, CC, CA,c Ecklers, etc...?

        Thank you.

            Re: It is time consuming

If you are restoring, then original rubber bushings and use your original rear spring UNLESS it is broken or rusted to the point it may break (doubtful).

If you are just driving, the fiberglass spring is nice, however, you need to have shocks calibrated to work with the fiberglass spring, not just generic "71 Corvette" shocks.

If you are doing autocross or high speed track events, then you may want the poly bushings and the 7 leaf, although you can get fiberglass springs that are stiffer and work better for racing. However, suspensions are systems, so unless you are experienced with them, you need to install a system, i.e., front and rear, shocks, bars, springs, bushings, etc.

Ecklers is a reseller on almost all of their parts now. So buying direct is often cheaper.

The others have good and bad comments on here. Do a search in the archives.

If you are doing normal driving and plan to show it occasionally, I'd go with the stock rubber bushings and such.

I eventually want to make it a driver worthy of occassional show quality (For my benifit.) Although, the style of some major cities I may be driving through seem to resemble high speed track events these days.
