    C2 Carburator Questions

    Members,
My '65 250 hp has original Carter WCFB carburator that is in need of a rebuild.

TIM & JG documents finish as: Main body - Zinc dichromate, Base plate - Black Phosphate, and Air Horn - Natural Aluminum. Obviously, a carburator fresh out of a soak bucket won't meet these requirements.

Questions: (1) How much judging attention is given to these finishes? (2) Are there carburator rebuilders that specialize in duplicating these finishes? Looked for carburator specialist in the Driveline without success. Any ideas from the membership on how to proceed.

    Thanks,
    Gene

        Re: C2 Carburator Questions

Gene - I just sent my dichromate Holley parts to Holley's Custom Speed Shop (web address: http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/Sales/C.../CustShop.html) for restoration. They offer that service for Carter and Rochester carbs as well. I've heard that professional carb restorers often use Holley's service.

Another option that I almost chose was purchasing the zinc plating kit and the dichromate dip solution from http://www.caswellplating.com and doing it myself. They have some photos of their customer's results on their website that look pretty good.

I'd suggest calling Holley and discuss what you have with them.
