    carb. numbers?

I have located a q-jet carb I need for my car, but am having trouble with the numbers. The seller says it is dated 0088, AND THE PART # is 7029207. But the way I read it it was manufactured the 8th day of 1968. If I am reading it correctly this should be a part# 7028207 or am I wrong?I need 7029207 and the date should be Dec. 68 through Jan 1969 in that area. I can'tfigure how this carb part # and date can be so far off, if I am reading it correctly.tHANKS FOR THE HELP IN advance!

    Re: carb. numbers?

Remember there were different date coding sequences for Carter vs. Rochester built QJet carbs which the judging guide books typically address and the Carter method was based on an alphameric sequence instead of an all numeric sequence. A 'C' or 'G' might be mistaken for a zero by one novice at reading air horn stampings....

Ask if he can give you the two letter code (broadcast code) along with a photo...than you can analyze on the basis of what it actually is.

7029207 was an over the counter replacement number carb as well as correct for 69 350/350. I have a nearby friend that needs one, and they're on ebay all the time. This could very easily be a 1978 carb. The wrong-date 7029207's go pretty reasonably.

Except all post 75 carbs use a "1" in front of the 7 to indicate units that include the APT (adjustable part throttle) used to assist with emissions control.

Thanks for the help guy's I have failed to ask the seller if it is a Rochester or Carter. I just assumwed it was a Rochester. He says it has 7029207, then 0088W. I need it for my L-46, 69 350/350 It is supposed to be factory new, but the date looks like 8th day of 1968 to me. My car was built in Feb. 69 so if iwas 68 it would be to early for my car correct?
