    C2 Tire Decoding Help

    Lowered the spare tub on my '64 several months ago and was happy to find a nearly new Firestone Deluxe Champion non DOT marked tire. I doubt it is original to the car though as there is what appears to be a date stamp which reads M10Y6733 which I assume translate into month 10 (Oct) and year 67. Am I correct and what is the 33 at the end?

    By the way, it is an 8.15-15 and fits in the tub beautifully. Under the 8.15-15 it says 'Replaces 7.10-15'.

    Re: C2 Tire Decoding Help

    DOT source coding went into effect Jan, 68 and each mfgr made up his own code sequence to meet DOT regulations regarding source traceablity. In '71, DOT standardized the coding sequence into a 10-digit alphameric sequence with the last three digits being the date of mfgr portion of the source code (the sequence expanded by a digit after the millenium).

    For interim DOT tires ('68-71), interpretation of the source traceablity sequence was proprietary to each mfgr and some changed it over time. There is no single source you can go to in order to translate these proprietary sequences. But, does it matter how your sidewall code is interpreted since the car originally shipped with 7.75x15 tires and not 8.10x15 rubber????

        While we are talking 64 tires my says;
        6.70-15 4 PLY BF Goodrich Silvertown while the non white side has same info plus the following codes, P-204-T, B8649-8, E-13506B-74C-2, and stamped into tire is 2262307996.
        More information then you need I bet. Have a nice day.
