I have been discussing paint restoration options with the local paint shops and now I seek your input on the best paint for my car.
The original acrylic lacquer finish on the outer surface is dull, baked, cracked, rough, marbled into little dark balls or otherwise worn away. When I pulled the carpet away, I could see what the original finish looked like.
The paint shops I spoke with did not suggest stripping or blasting. The consensus seems to be sanding, priming and painting. The paint options appear to be either one-stage urethane or a base coat-clear coat finish.
Assuming that I will not be able to replace the original acrylic lacquer finish, I am leaning toward the one-stage urethane. The selling points are durability, sheen and cost.
What are your thoughts?
