    C3 Heat riser part

I am wondering if any company reproduces the heat riser vacuum actuator for 1978 Corvette. The original GM part number I dug up is 1996577 which comes up discontinued. It is described as actuator with rod. This part covers 1978 and 1979. I am looking for one. Craig

This part was probably used on other GM cars, have you tried your local parts stores?

No just NAPA and autozone website, which only shows an actual heat riser, not the actuator. I will try local carquest tomorrow, but I have a feeling they will all show just heat riser not the actuator. Thanks

        Craig------

I've got bad news for you on this one. The GM #1996577 actuator was not only a Chevrolet-only part, it was a Corvette-only piece. That eliminates the possibility of finding one on another GM car. It also virtually eliminates the possibility that the part will be available in the aftermarket. Aftermarket parts are usually manufactured for applications that have a fairly wide requirement. A Corvette-only piece applicable to only 2 model years is just about as narrow an application as you can get. Very doubtful the aftermarket will "come to the rescue" on this one. This is the kind of piece that will require a specialty Corvette reproduction parts source to get involved. There were about 100,000 cars that originally used this part and that should be plenty for a specialty parts reproduction source to "get involved" at some point. Plus, it is a wear part so, eventually, all surviving cars will need one.

Also, unfortunately, this actuator was discontinued in May, 1989 so I'm sure that the NOS supply has pretty much dried up. However, there should be good used examples out there. I would not be real enthused about purchasing a used example of a wear part like this since you never know how much life that it has left in it. But, I would say that the used option is just about the only one available to you at this point.

          Joe,

That was my fear that being a Corvette only part and only 78-79 I am probably SOL. My actuator still does work but the snap clip at the bottom corroded and will no longer hold it onto the heat riser valve ball stud. Any ideas? I just figured a new on would be easier since I do drive the car around town and want it to work correctly. A new snap clip seemed more impossible to find than the actuator. Any help is invited. Thanks for answers to this point. Craig
