    Thermostat Housing Part # ?

On my 70 LT1 the thermostat housing part number is located on the flange having no recesses at the stud and bolt locations. The part # is GM3972128 is this correct, or should it be the '660 part #.

    Greg------

GM #3972178 was a PRODUCTION-only part number for a thermostat housing that was released in late 1969. It was never sold in SERVICE. I have heard of cases in which this piece is found on 70-71 era small blocks. Apparently, it was used alternately in PRODUCTION in place of the far more common 3877660. I fully expect that it is the original and correct thermostat housing for your car. Whether it would be accepted as such in judging, I couldn't tell you.

      Joe,

The build date of the car is A26 and the engine build date is January 14,1970 an early car #1799.That would make that part exceptable for what you stated and a rare part possibly. It is painted aluminum to match the manifold. The judges at the last meet, a Regional, picked up that it should be a '660.Interesting fact Joe that it could be correct. Most all the major engine compartment parts are dated Nov-DEC.of 1969.

      Thanks Joe
