    36 gallon fuel tank

I have noticed that some 36 gallon tanks are a yellow color while others are much whiter. Is there any particular reason for this? Were "over-the-counter" tanks any different from the assembly-line units? Were these tanks ever offered as a reproduction? Just curious about any differences. Thanks. Rex #8089

the tanks themselves, when viewed from the underside of the floor pan , on both my no3's are lite yellow. the one is a late 63(ZO6) and the other a 66 425 hp. over the counter tanks were available in the 60's but i've never seen one and can't comment on their color. lids have been repoduced. although i'm not aware of any tanks per se being reproduced, i doubt it would have been a big deal to make one from scratch.mike

My 36-gallon tank was done in a charcoal-colored fiberglass. (Of course, it was for a 62 racer--just pulling your leg because you didn't indicate a year or generation for the big tank--Chevy made 36-gallon tanks for solid axle cars available out the back door to selected racers)

Hi Mike and thanks for the response. You are correct, I failed to indicate teh vintage of the tank,................... it is for a 63-67. My 63 has one that's been in it for a long time, and the other one, well, it appears to be NOS. I think that's why it is so much whiter, it's never had a drop of gas in it, doesn't even offer a hint of gasoline smell. The only thing it has ever had in it (and still does) is a bunch of leaves. The tank was stored for many years. The fiberglass is very white with some gray spotted primer on it and the letters "OK" in crayon or grease pencil, nothing else written on it. Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks, Rex #8089
