    60 Hood hardware finish

I can't seem to find a definitive answer on hood and trunk hinge and hardware.
Does anybody have a list? What should I send out for plating and what should be black? Any recomendations on who can do the plating?

    Re: 60 Hood hardware finish

    Larry,
In my opinion, here are the finishes that I would consider correct for a 60.
The hood support should be zinc or cad plated with no chromate dip. this will have a silver color with no gold tone. It will be devoid of any blackout overspray. The hinges will be zinc/cad plated, but should show with complete blackout. The female latches should be Zinc/cad plated and should show with blackout ranging from mostly to complete. The fiberglass under the latches should show bare glass since the plates were in place when the blackout took place. (The judges look for this!) The male latches are also zinc/cad plated and may have a chromate dip depending on when the car was built. (My late Dec. car had already switched to the chromate dipped latches.) this will imopart a slight gold tone to the plates and pins, but once again, the latches are almost completely blacked out except where it has flaked off from poor adhesion or wear to the pin from the latches. The springs on the pins were originally dip-painted in black gloss or semi-gloss paint, but the point is almost moot due to the blackout.
In the trunk about the only hardware that is not painted are the two parts of the trunk latch and the cover plate that installs to hide the latch. all other fasteners at the lid hinges and the spring towers should be full painted the same as the trunk. The screws that secure the spare tire moon as well as the screws that secure the jack handle, lug wrench, and the trunk divider should show plated with no overspray. The clips for the jack handle and the lug wrench should be gloss black as shold be the tools. Every thing associated with the antenna should show no overspray. The spare tire board should have it's retainer cup show plated with no overspray, and the board should be a kind of transparent black stain that the grain can be clearly seen through.

    Regards, John McGraw
