Wow, that's confusing. His website seems to be soliciting just what you're looking for.

I've looked at his site several times and see no reference, either in photo or text, to him making VIN tags. I see only 'data' tags, or 'trim' tags as it's called in the Corvette hobby.

I heard there's a guy in Texas that will make vin tags providing you have all of the proper documentation. It was in a message from Noland posted on the CRPL some time ago. Somewhere I have the email with his contact information. Brad if you're interested send me your email address and I'll see if I can find it. Evidently they aren't cheap, the email stated they're something like $500. I have never contacted him nor dealt with him so I'm not sure about his work. Hope this helps, Ted

I got the idea that he was asking for his VIN plate to be restored. If you provide the original VIN plate how is there any danger of fraud?

My '62 has the original still on the steering column. My concern is that it is vulnerable to breaking off or even theft when I leave my hood open at local cruise-ins. I know that just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not after me so, can I do something to help preserve that tag other than keep the hood down?

                  Larry,
He does do VIN tags, and he does a real nice job on them. I am not sure how you ended up so crosswise with him, but I can tell you that he does nice work. I think that he possibly just took exception to the concept of bidding. He will only make a new VIN tag for a car that you can furnish a copy of the title in your name and an affadavit from a law enforcement officer in your state attesting to the fact that he has viewed your alternate VIN (either engine or chassis), and that it matches the title. He will not just crank out a VIN tag for anyone who has the money in hand, and he takes strong exception to those vendors who do.

                      Sorry Larry,
That message was meant for Brad not you. Maybe one of these days we will get software that allows editing. I could not even figure out how to delete the post.

                        John,

You've probably already figured this out on your own, but to delete a post just open the post, scroll to the bottom of the post, type your password in the white box and click on the gray box that says "Delete this post".

Any thoughts on how to re-secure a spot welded sterring column VIN that has come off?

                            Dennis,

Same thing happened to me. I just scored the back of the plate and the steering column with the sharp point of a box cutter and stuck it on with slow setting epoxy. Its appears to be attached better than it ever was. I suppose if a judge were to try to work a piece of thread or dental floss under it (to determine if it was spot welded or not) it would fail but so far, nobody has tested it.
