    C-6 vs. GT-40, Cobra, Viper

    Fellow Vette Owners,

I just can't help myself after reading the previous posts on the new C-6. First, I admit that I'm an old geezer when it comes to Corvettes and I'm stuck in the 60's. I will also admit that these new C-4, C-5 and the new C-6 are great Vettes with great creature comforts and power options.

What I cannot live with is the companies like Ford and Chrysler having the cars like the GT-40, Cobra and Viper and Chevrolet is trying to sell this "Butt Ugly" fiberglass thing to us Corvette owners.

It's just got to be beautiful and pleasing to the eye. Think of the great cars of the world and you think of Ferrari Daytona. Beauty that just cannot be defined on paper. It is in the eyes of the beholder that car guys all over the world appreciate cars like those.

Now Ford is selling the GT-40 again. Beauty that pleases the eye and soothes the soul. The Cobra that is the most masculine every built and truly a car with brute strength flowing from every line.

And now Chrysler Dodge has the Viper. Shall I rant on?

Chevrolet says the Corvette performs well in the wind tunnel and that's why the body looks like that. UGH!

I don't think I'll ever have the need to drive a Corvette in a wind tunnel but I would be embarassed to drive one to a Corvette show or Club event.

Sorry to take up the technical space, but I feel better now.

    Regards,

    JR

As I recall the C4 was also...

received with comments like "has all the appeal of a door wedge", etc. I imagine we will get used to it. I have to say, though, the GT40 was and is the best looking car ever produced.

So thats why I subconciously back mine in to parking places. I agree, but,
after driving my 99 for two years, what else can I get that drives like that for under 30k. I love it and I wouldn't have anything else(except my other one)

For years, new Corvettes have been and continue to be too big overall. I'm more disappointed with every new generation that this hasn't been addressed. They're like boats next to other contemporary world-class sports cars and that's why I wouldn't consider owning one. Just my honest opinion. Jim Weeks Mmeber #2978

I'm a C2 owner and I think the C6 Convertible is the best looking car since the C1's thru 57, and the C2's

I also have a C5 model. Not crazy about the style, but what else is as comfortable and pleasurable to drive?

As for styling; the "early sharks" '68 to '72 are as sexy as any car ever to come out as a production vehicle. I truly believe this style to be body beautiful!

i can afford $50K but no way can i afford $90 to $150K for a toy.you guys must have more money than i do living on a fixed income. i bet DC looses money on every viper they sell and they will drop it just like the prowler when the hard times come. the viper and GT ford do not sell enought car to count towards the company CAFE ratings and if they sold 30,000+ it would be a different story and they would worry about C of D.

                Does being fast justify ugliness?

I didn't think so when I was dating, and I still don't think so when I'm driving.

It is all in the eye of the beholder. We have had one of every 'C'. My wife still thinks the C2 is the best looking. Especially the 67 yellow Convertible. We have a `62, 340 and enjoy it immensely. But our `03 AE with the Magnetic suspension is unbelievable.
We have driven the `62 on Many NCRS Road Tours to Nationals but find the C5 is more reliable, dry, and dependable.
The C6 is nice but we will most likely have to get a Coupe in stead of a Convertible because when we travel for 2 - 3 weeks we will need more room for our minimal bags.
Until you have driven one and travelled, I can not see how you can knock them.

                    BECAUSE THEY'RE HIDEOUSLY UGLY!

I don't have to drive them to despise their appearance.

When the chrome bumpers went away, so did my interest.
