    Ronald Reagan 1911 - 2004

You made us proud to be Americans after many years of self doubt.
You inspired the longest period of U.S. prosperity in the 20th century.
You caused the demise of the Soviet Union.
You had conviction, and clear vision.
America loved you, The Great Communicator.

God rest your soul. God bless you.

At my house, the Colors fly tomorrow in memory of the sacrifice made at Normandy, France, June 6, 1944. They will be at half staff in memory of Ronald Reagan.

Reagan provided leadership and vision to restore this country's pride and self respect when we were at our lowest point. A man of principle, he stuck to his agenda: He went eyeball to eyeball with the Soviets, dared to say exactly what he believed, paid no heed to polls or fearful hand-wringers, and ignored our detractors both here and abroad. May God continue to bless the USA with such leadership.

During my 22 years in the Air Force, I had the honor and privilage to work at the White House Communications Agency for 6 years (1982-1988)during the Reagan administrations. I saw him on numerous occassions and met him on a few and he was always a gentleman to those around him, regardless if they were a head of state or a junior enlisted person, like myself. I have 2 photos of myself and President Reagan that he autographed, which I have always cherished and always will.

                Bill,

Your post was great. Concerning Jimmy Carter, the following was reported on Newsmax.com: "Still bitter that Ronald Reagan ended his political career in 1980, ex-President Jimmy Carter told reporters on Sunday that he would make no formal comment on Reagan's death.

But at the Plains, Ga., Sunday school class he still teaches, the 39th president was a little more expansive, acknowledging that it was "a sad day for our country."

Jimmy Carter was not only a sorry President but he has proven to be hypocrite. What a sorry excuse for a human being. Instead of teaching a Sunday school class, maybe he ought to enroll in a class and try to comphehend some of the basic teachings.

Pat, it is unfortunate, but "comprehension of the basic teachings", not even total sold-out dedication to those principles and their Author makes us perfect human beings. It takes a lifetime of desire with divine assistance to even make a good start on perfection. None of us will get there in this life; but in the end, we are promised it WILL be accomplished if we remain faithful. After all, He came so we didn't HAVE to be perfect...only to be forgiven.

All believers disappoint themselves and the Lord along the way, and all of us have those weaknesses where we are most vulnerable. Jimmy Carter's weakness could be bitterness for loss of the world's power and glory, but somehow that just doesn't seem to fit his projected image of maturity in his faith. In other words, he seems to "walk the talk" with his philantropy. Even if he were bitter, as the news service attributes, that still wouldn't make him a hypocite...only an imperfect, struggling Christain.

However, we probably would agree on his being the least competent President of the United States in the last half of the twentieth century.

Bill, my favorite "Reaganism" is: "The closest thing to eternity here on earth is a government program!" You can say that again,Mr. President.
