I recently removed the oblong cover located near the glove box from the air box of my 1964 factory a/c coupe. With the cover removed, I could could clearly see the evaporator along with quite a bit of water dripping down the fins.
Upon revving the engine slighly, a fair amount of this water was launched into the air box which did not seem to be normal.
I find about a 1/4 cup of water strewn on the floor after running the a/c for any length of time on a humid day (which is just about EVERY day here in Houston). I plan on removing the box and replacing all of the seals which should prevent the water from falling on the floor, but am afraid I will then have water ponding in the box producing a nice healthy growth of mildew and odor.
Is it typical to have some water entering the air box or am I in need of something? I did notice a piece of foam rubber insulation next to the firewall in the outer/evaporator box was loose, but not sure if/how this would impact water entering the inner (air) box.
Thanks everyone!
