I am re-installing the engine which was removed with the transmission still in the car. I supported the transmission with a jack while separating them, will removeing the jack at some point while connnecting the engine to the transmission make it easier, or should I keep the jack in place untill they are completely connected?

Re: '66 BB ENGINE INSTALLATION/TRANSMISSION MATING
Rob - I have found it easier to leave the transmission on the jack for support, and you can jostle the tranny around to ease the mating, but it is easier with the support. I am assuming you are talking about a transmission jack with the cradle when I say this.....which helps as it has the tilt adjustments......Craig- Top

Re: '66 BB ENGINE INSTALLATION/TRANSMISSION MATING
Rob
couple things before you drop your motor in.
Did you replace the pilot bearing in the fly wheel? is it the correct size meaning will the transmition input shaft slide into it? Were you carefull installing the new one so the input shaft does slide in easey? Is the clutch in and facing the correct way
I ask you these things because when I was installing my motor I could not mate the engine to the trans that last one inch or so,and all of this stuff is what I was secound guessing my self on.I ended up getting mine in by wiggeling the trans while my wife depressed the clutch and it was just enough to get them together. The wrong thing to do is try and pull them together with longer bolts
I also did not install my distributor for the engine drop(I was afraid to hit the fire wall and crack it)
Good luck and be safe Dont put your hands or fingers anyplace they shouldnt be.I almost got my hand crushed because I was moving some wires and my brother inlaw wiggled the motor and it settled into place and my hand was in the wrong place.- Top

Re: '66 BB ENGINE INSTALLATION/TRANSMISSION MATING
Thanks, all the things you mentioned were done, I just wasn't sure whether I was making it more difficult by keeping the transmission stationary. Last time I did this, it was on a chassis without the body installed....much easier.- Top

Re: '66 BB ENGINE INSTALLATION/TRANSMISSION MATING
Rob when I was reinstalling my motor I had removed the drive shaft, removed the shifter. And kinda twisted the trans back and out of the way and supported.once I had my motor dropped in place on the mounts I then muscled the tranny foward and into place into the clutch disk and then the pilot bearing.I am NO STRONG man by any means but I was able to twist and coak it into place with my hands easery then using the tranny jack.If I remember correct it was a tight squeeze between the input shaft and the bell housing and had to fanagle it into place.
Good luck- Top
