I've spent the last two hours trying to remove a PH25 oil filter so I can finish a new oil pan gasket installation and convert the filter back to the canister. When a canister is converted to a screw on filter, is there some modification made that makes spinning the filter off different than usual? The filter has been crushed in the process and all that remains is the top portion. It's on a lift so access is easy. Been beating the hell out of it and it just won't budge. Any ideas??

Use a hammer and a small chisel on the outer top bead to rotate the filter in the "off" direction.Bill Clupper #618- Top

They get stuck sometimes. If you have enough filter casing left, it would be in your best intersts to smack it fore/aft with a ball peen, twice in each direction and it should spin right off in your hands. If you don't have enough left, the chisel method described above is your last shot.- Top

Re: C2 Oil Canister/Filter Problem
I've done all of the above and basically just have the top plate of the filter left. The rim has been practically all removed by chiseling. It is unreal how this thing is hanging on. If I'm going to convert to a canister, do I have to worry about damaging the center threads that the newer style filter spins on to?- Top

Re: C2 Oil Canister/Filter Problem
That's what I thought. I gave up last night as my neck was about to snap from looking upward for three hours. Back to it tonight. I've never seen anything like it, almost acts like it was welded to the adapter. Now that I think about it, I'm surprised the adapter isn't coming off from all banging.- Top
