Respray old package tray vs new (62-340)

I need a package tray for the '62. I have found a fellow NCRS member with an original package tray and trim, with the original rivets and brackets. My car is red, his package tray is black, so if I get it it will require a re-paint. What is involved in surface prep to make it accept polyurethane Roman Red? Alternatively, a new bare fiberglass package tray would require some surface prep as well. Given that I have no idea what is involved in the prep of either piece, which would be the better way to go on this? I am tempted by the original since the brackets are already riveted. Thanks for any advice!

Buy the original. Let your paint shop worry about the prep. About the same either way.

I wouldn't even give this one a second thought--if the original is good condition, use it-- to do the rivets and not have that detected is very difficult!

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. Original is best, I just hope it doesn't need too much prep. Nothing like a $75 part that ends up costing $300 to fix up!
