I just purchased a kit to replace the aluminum face on my 66 glove door. Of course there is no instructions included. What I need to know is what size drill to us to drill out the rivets and what do I use for a drill stop so I don't drill to far into the door? If any one have done this before any help would be appreciated....

I just recieved my new glove box door repair kit from LIC. with directions. You need a # 29 drill bit, 8-32 tap, 5/16" drill bit, 3/32 allen wrench. The kit comes with the special screws to replace the rivets. The rivets holes need to be drilled 7/32" deep without disturbing the outer face. Use the 5/16 bit to drill the RIVET HEADS ONLY. They also want you to glue the "Corvette" emblem back on to the new aluminum plate, or use a new emblem that attaches with new nuts. Paint the glove box door before installing the panel to the door. After installing the panel with the allen screws, drill the allen head out SLIGHTLY so it looks like a rivet when finished and paint with semi-gloss black paint. All is "According to the directions..."

Re: 66 Glove door Aluminum face
Ken,
At the recent Lowe's Speedway Regional NCRS meet, I believe there was a seminar on how to do this WITHOUT removing the rivets. As I understand it, a Restorer article is forthcoming.
I have a copy of the directions. E-mail me and I'll forward them. It's slick, and I plan to use this method mext time for my car.
