starter for 63 327 with 14inch flywheel

Hi I'm looking for a starter motor that would bolt up to a 63 327 and still allow a 168 tooth flywheel without having to redrill the block to accept the newer offset bolt pattern.I would rather not have to go locate an original 153 tooth flywheel. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated..

Actually, finding the correct 153 tooth flywheel for your car is not that difficult, at all. You can still obtain a correct one from GM under GM #366860. This flywheel GM lists for $252.00, but you can get one for a lot less through competitive GM dealers. I believe that you can also use flywheel GM #14085720 which is an excellent flywheel of nodular iron construction. It is also a 153 tooth flywheel and GM lists for $199.91.

As far as a starter for your 63 application with a 168 tooth flywheel and 63 starter nose configuration, I believe that there is probably one available that will work. However, I'm reluctant to speculate on which ones will since I've never actually tried them or know of a particular case where one worked.

Don, Your original bell housing and inspection shield will not fit with the 14 inch fly wheel.
