C2 Wiper Blade Replacement

I purchased new 15" replacement wiper blades(Anco) for my 67 roadster and they catch each other just as they near the bottom of the down stroke. These are not new blades but new inserts. I don't remember them catching before but it has been a long time since last used.

Rick -

Assuming nothing has gone awry in your linkage since you removed the old 15" inserts, you should be able to compensate for a minor clearance issue by tweaking the slotted adjustment screw on the top side of the stamped portion of the wiper arms.

If the wiper arms are installed wrong they will hit on the down stroke. When the wipers are off the drivers side is at the bottom against the windshield trim the passengers side is above it.

man you guys are good. So happens I was driving my 65 in to work today, horrors of horrors it starts to rain, haha I say this ain't no old disfunctional car, everything works ! (well, as of right now anyway). Wipers are a-wiping and then, crunch! the two tips caught on the down stroke and the p-side wiper started to bend (much to my horror as it is the oh-so-desireable correct arm assembly), then it uncaught. I was so horrified I almost went off the road. Rest of the way with no wipers, not so bad, plus the infrequent dripping of the rain in my lap (vert, no such thing as a perfect seal) helped to distract me. So then I come in, and read the new posts, and this is on here. I run back down to my car, and sure enough, the p-side wiper is the one "on the bottom" when off. Bob is right, this orientation leads to malfunction! I promise to go read the shop manual when I get home, but care to tell me how to re-orient the wipers?

Pop the wiper arms off the transmissions (the removal/installation tool below helps avoid paint damage when doing so), turn the wipers on and off so the motor parks correctly, and re-install the wiper arms/blades in accordance with the dimensions shown in the '65 A.I.M., UPC 1-Asm, Sheet E4.

65 A.I.M. UPC 1-Asm, Sheet E4 Missing

I have 2 AIM manuals and they both have upc 1-asm E2 then when I turn the page E5 is on the back. Looks like I'm missing E3 & 4. Both AIM's are the same. Could someone scan the page for the wiper arm dimensions and email it to me.

Without all the other gory detail on the A.I.M. sheet, in the parked position, the far tip of the driver's side blade should be 2" up from the top edge of the windshield seal, and the far tip of the passenger side blade should be 4" up from the top of the seal. This will provide 1-1/8" clearance from the blade tips to the windshield side post moldings at full stroke (on a wet windshield).
