Does anyone know if there is an easy way to determine what the GM part numbers translate to in commonly available parts? I'm particularly interested in bolt and nut sizes. Head markings, etc. are not a huge concern for many of the bolts I'm interested in. Thanks Bob

Re: C1 Assembly Manual Part Numbers
The problem with part numbers from C1 Assembly Manuals is that they have become "No Longer A Valid Number" when you ask about them in the GM parts system. Sometimes a new or follow-up number was assigned but usually this isn't the case.
If you have a Chevrolet Parts Book say from 1963 which covers all the C1 parts, then once in a while the dimensions are given.
I am fortunate in having a GM Fastener Engineering Standards book (4 volumes). This book is referenced to the C1 era and contains not only all the fasteners listed by part number BUT the specifications for acceptance by GM as well!
You give me say a cap screw part number and I can give you the dimensions, finish, tolerances, SAE and GM steel, carbon content, tensile strength, shear strength, and other specifications as well. In addition, I can identify some typical head markings by inspection of one of the very original Corvettes in my collection. I will assist others with fastener problems on a "as time is allowed basis". E-mail me part numbers if you wish.

Re: C1 Assembly Manual Part Numbers
Thanks Dale, I appreciate your offer but, there is no way I would impose on you for the extensive needs I have. Almost every bolt on my car needs to be verified. After 40 years of "make work" fixes, I had an entire car of mismatched hardware. I'm not confident that any of it is correct. I may ask for you help in areas that I simply can not find on my own but, I am willing to do as much research as I can myself. Are you aware of any reference manuals like what you have that might be available? If you can give the a reference number, name, etc. on yours, I will scour the antique book stores for it. Thanks, Bob- Top

YOU Have My Most Sincere Gratitude
in that you are willing to do some work on your own! Thank you and it will make you a MUCH better restorer!
There is no book, to my knowledge, other than the GM Standards that will be of GREAT value. Joe Tripoli's chassis book has some fastener data in it but like all Corvette books you have to take the data with a grain of salt. Another "flawed" source of information comes from Ken Keyser in the form of a handout at Bloomington Gold Workshops about seven years ago.
I have regretably released "flawed" data as well and so has Noland Adams and just about everyone who's made an effort to share, so don't interpret my remarks as criticisms but only as observations. Ken works for GM and has access to vast information. He writes for Vette Views today.
When time allows I'll copy some stuff and send it to you.

Re: C1 Assembly Manual Part Numbers
Dale, in your spare time, would you mind looking at the website below. This is IHS Engineering Products that offers documentation for various standard setting organizations. They claim to have available the GM Standards. Are these the same documents you have? They have a disclaimer that it does not include certain parts. Even if it is what you have, would it have the GM p/n reference. Could I hope to be so lucky?
Thanks, Bob
