    Gas Neck Seal Boot

Does anyone know if the gas neck seal boot in a '72 can be replaced without dropping the gas tank?

Yes, it can easily be replaced without gas tank removal. You will need to remove the fuel door and bezel assembly, but this is a very easy task----just remove the 4 phillips head screws that retain the bezel to the rear deck. You should then be able to pull out the seal, but do it carefully so you don't damage the fiberglass extensions that the bezel attaches to.

When the seal is just out, remove the rubber drain tube from the connector which affixes to the front of the seal---you don't want to pull the drain hose out. Then, you can remove the connector from the old seal and transfer it to the new seal or use a new connector. Attach the drain hose to the new seal and re-insert the seal into the fuel door opening, carefully stretching it over the fuel neck.

Re-install the fuel door and bezel assembly and you're done.
