After another talk with the PO, turns out the wheel cylinders and the master were never rebuilt. (The brake LINES are all new and looked great, so much for assumptions....) Given the number of scary hills around here, I figure they're do for a rebuild. I was under the dash tonight and noted this. Safe to say this means rebuild NOW? What are the odds this just needs a seal, vs. needing a sleeving/honing? Or can't one say until it's apart?

remove and disassemble and hone. if no pitting of the walls of the cylinder, then replace the rubber items. if deep pits, have it sleeved. i use Corvette Stainless Brakes in Clarence, Ny. mike- Top

Rob what your picture shows in my opinion is seepage since the brake fluid is not dripping off the unit and soiling the carpet. A rebuild kit will most likely repair the problem, brake master cylinder seals do wear out.- Top

My 62 MC was rebuilt by me a couple of years back and functions just fine. Be sure there are no pits in the areas that he pistons ride on. A pit out in the center of the cylinder where the pistons don't touch is not a big concern.- Top
