    63 shifter_Hurst

I have a Hurst Competition Plus shifter with an imitation 63 handle. The action will not move far enough to engage the reverse arm. Disassembly looks pretty straightforward, but I have a question about the spring. Is there a load on the spring that needs to be contained, or does it just react to pressure from the handle shaft?

    Hey Steve -

Check the linkage alignment with a metal rod as per the Hurst Linkage alignment instructions. Also make sure you have the linkage bolted to the correct holes.

    Good luck

Thanks, but I think I found the problem. I disassembled the unit. There is a second spring that has to be compressed in order for the reverse arm to be engaged. With the assembly that contains the springs and shift handle in a vice, I have to really pull on the handle to compress the reverse spring. I guess I'll call Hurst and see what they say.
