    Oil Pressure Gauge

My oil pressure guage, with a capillary tube, does not work. Any method to clean them out and get them working. Could the guage be plugged and can it be cleaned out?

Lyle - My oil guage on my 69 did not work as well. First of all, the tube was bad and was replaced. The guage was also stuck and the guy who restored my 69 showed me how to fix it. First he ran air pressure into the guage where the oil pressure line come in. That did not work.. (so you do not need to have any oil to ckeck the line, just use air pressure. But I suggest not more than 40 lbs on the guage as it may mess it up). Next he put some oil on the back, I believe where the needle comes through to the back. He stated to carefully try to move the back where the mechanism is to try to get it to move. Do not move it by using the needle. Once we got it started to move, he just used air pressure to work the mechanism until it worked good. He stated that that is all he does to get them to work. Mine is now on the car and works great.
Just be careful. I do not have a picture of the back of the guage so I can't give a detailed description of where he put some oil. But I am sure it was where the needles come through on the back. Give that a try and see if it works for you. Maybe someone else will pipe in and help out as well.

I would say the guage is good to go if it works with the air pressure. Just make sure that the line and the connections are good... Good luck...

            Re: Oil Pressure Gauge

The oil pressure gage is connected to the engine using actual tubing, not a capillary tube. I would check first to make sure there isn't a tight kink in the tube or at the fittings on either end. If they check OK it would be easy to disconnect the tubing and clean it out with carb cleaner and air pressure to assure the tubing is open. If those all check OK you have to suspect the gage.
