    67 ignition

    Dear Members,

I have disassembled the gauge cluster except for Wiper and Ign. switch. How do I get the ign. out without the key? I see the small hole, do I insert a pin and try to turn ign. In older Rustangs you insert a paper clip or pin and turn to the left with key, But I have no key for this car. I'm also having problems with the Wiper switch, but I think it's just got 35 years of sludge holding it tightly. Any help would be much appreciated, see you at San Luis Obispo!

Justin, I believe the wiper and the ign. switch is exactly like my 63. Saying that, you need to insert the key at the same time you insert a paper clip into the small hole and turn to the left to remove the lock cylinder. The ign. bezel will not unscrew with the lock cylinder in-place. I suggest a locksmith to pick the lock. On the wiper switch, remove the knob, then turn the slotted screw counter clockwise. There is a special tool for this that helps avoid scratching everything. The 35+ years of dust and dirt probably doesn't help, but the tool will help.

    Good luck

    Harry

Justin, if you have no key, the code for the key is sometinmes stamped on the cylinder of the door lock if you pull that out. Failing to have the stamp, a locksmith should be able to disassemble the door lock and find the correct ket code from the tumblers. Then you can have him make you a new key to get the ign switch out. As with the Rustang, you need the key and the pin in the hole to remove the lock cyl.
