    C-1 043 GENERATOR

    Jim----

The first thing that I'd check for are the pretty simple things: make sure that the electrical connection to the gauge is properly installed and make sure that all cluster ground wires are properly affixed. Next, and under the possibility that the gauge didn't work properly BEFORE you did the cluster work, check the connections at the bottom of the pickup/sending unit on the gas tank. There is a pin-type connector for the gas gauge and a blade connector for the ground. Both are critical to proper gauge operation.

    C-1 043 GENERATOR

Today I found a 043 generator for my 60 and all appears correct except the tag is black on silver tag instead of red on asilver tag that I am used to seeing, can anyone shed some light on it? The tag is the riveted type and bears a correct looking part# and date code and does not indicate that it is a rebuilt unit. I have seen some Delco rebuilt tags over the years but they were all the stick-on variety and usually had rebuilt specified on the tag. The date code is about 3 months too late to be correct for my car, so I am going to change the tag anyway but just looking to further my education. Thanks, John

John,I believe the black tags are from a six volt six cylinder generator.

I went back out to the shop to look and guess what? The tag says 12 Volt. John

John My first opinion would be that someone purchased the wrong tag and stamped 12 volt on it and afixed it to the generator or you have a mistake from delco remy.It is most likley the first is the correct answer.

            Re: RE:even Stranger

Steve, the "12 VOLT" is printed on the tag and not stamped, and when I removed the tag and rivets I found black overspray under the edge of the tag indicating that the tag was not replaced on at least the most recent rebuild. This may be a mystery that I may not ever find the answer to but it sure is fun looking. John

John - A shot in the dark, as to the source of different colored tags, but is there any indication that the generator might have been made by D-R Canada rather than by D-R U.S.A.? Pete
