    65 F. I. top shield cover

Does anyone know a good source for information on ignition shield covers? I am trying to determine if my cover on my 65 F.I. car is original. It has been on the car for 30 years but could have been changed before then. Thanks.

    Mornin' Rich,

The only difference between a FI cover and a carburetored cover in 1965 is the shape and location of the removable grounding strap on the back of the cover that rests on the tack drive. The A.I.M. shows this clearly. Don't remember the issue, but John Amgwert did a fine article several years ago in the "Restorer" that should answer most of your questions about midyear shielding. Bill,

What about number of rivits and material? Plastic or metal, early or late car make any difference?

Plastic rivets two only on all '65 SB

          Hi Bill,

Thanks for the information. One additional question regarding the backside, does it have one or two holes (w/carb fi, stamped above)?

two, because the positions used are different due to the difference in configuration of the FI and regular distributors. I think (without research-dangerous) all had two slots except early '63 with wonderbar which used none

I have seen two very early 65's with metal rivits, possibly a carry over from 64. Both cars are very original, untouched. I am curious what cover I have, it looks identical to the 65 except it has three metal rivits and one hole on the backside. It has been on the car since the 70's.
