Re: Firestone Wide Oval Tire
re firestone wide oval tire jack humphrey original equipment was f and firestone was a legitimate factory supplier tires with less than of original tread scared defective beads are kind of low value items since originality is one axis and condition safety is it's mate you can make a teeter toter trade off here to the point a serious restorer would prefer to have a new repro tire next there's the issue of dating once dot went into effect in the ' my after jan all tires had to bear a dot origin code the last few digits of the dot code specify the date of manufacture so while just about any correct non dot tire style size mfgr works for earlier corvettes in concourse competition the window narrows with dot rated rubber is the tire worth something the answer is yes but exactly how much depends on to whom when where you can probably ask at bloomington and find more than one taker but there's a time travel component to this windfall if i were you i'd consider two things keep the tire with your car out of weather and uv to maintain the factory original aspect of the car put an ad in ncrs driveline and list the price as best offer but be prepared to give a better description of it's condition and list the full dot registration code if it's a ww serious buyers will want the original blue uv protect dye over the whitewall your local firestone dealer can put a tread meter on it and give you a pretty good estimate of the remaining tread- Top

Re: Firestone Wide Oval Tire
re firestone wide oval tire gary guisto thanks for the info i took another look at the tire it is an f with raised white letters the only thing i can find that looks like a dot number is dot or a spot which looks as if a tag was placed in the tire mold kl i don't know if either of these numbers have any meaning there is about of rubber left over the 'warning bars' it is mounted on a rim and still has air in it i would keep the tire with the car however this particular car has had a hard life and would not be a show car with out many dollars and many hours of labor i do like it and plan to keep it running and on the road thanks again for the info- Top
